Martin Health Celebrates 75 Years in 2014!
Much has changed since the 23-bed Martin County Hospital opened on the banks of the St. Lucie River in 1939. According to the organization’s first annual report, published in 1940, the hospital and its staff of 17 admitted seven patients on its first day of operations. In its first 11 months, Martin County Hospital admitted 389 patients, including 36 births.
Today, Martin Health System operates three hospitals and 10 outpatient sites throughout Martin and St. Lucie counties, providing acute, primary and preventative care. In our last fiscal year, Martin Health reported 20,300 patient admissions and 88,000 emergency department visits.
The Essence of Martin Health
The essence of Martin Health has always been our people. In honor of our 75th anniversary, Martin Health is highlighting individual associates and teams of associates who carry out our mission day in and day out. Throughout this year, we will share short vignettes
in tribute to those associates who stand out for their capacity to make a difference in the lives of our patients, family members and the community as a whole. We salute these associates for helping us provide exceptional health care, hope and compassion to every patient, every time.
