Martin Health System recognizes its responsibilities to lend financial and in-kind support to endeavors that improve community health and welfare in Martin and St. Lucie counties. To that end, we support and provide community funding for programs such as:
Volunteers in Medicine Clinic
Martin Health, along with the Martin County Medical Society and the Martin County Public Health Unit, helped to establish the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in October 1995. This clinic provides free primary medical care to residents of Martin County who are below the 200 percent poverty income level, and who do not have private health insurance, Medicaid or Medicare.
Martin Health provided the original facility for the VIM Clinic and paid a small staff who assisted in recruiting volunteer physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals to run the clinic. The Martin Health Auxiliary donated $310,000 to remodel and relocate the clinic to its current location, and Martin Health additionally provided initial operating costs and administrative assistance.
Martin Health now supports the clinic by providing access to laboratory, diagnostic studies and ancillary programs such as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapy, dietary counseling, and monitored exercise programs.
Charity Care
Every year, Martin Health provides charity care for patients who cannot afford treatment. In total for 2010, Martin Health provided, at cost, charity and community benefit and support of $35.6 million.
