Innovation Makes Martin Health BETTER
Martin Health is committed to being at the forefront of new procedures, tools and programming that can enhance the experience of our patients. This requires staying on top of cutting-edge technologies and advancements in health care delivery while engaging in creative, forward thinking that will improve our services and best meet the needs of our growing community. Below are several recent initiatives that are advancing the quality of care at Martin Health.
Comprehensive Health Management Brings Pharmacists into Primary Care Practice
As part of a progressive and innovative approach to the management of complex chronic diseases, such as diabetes, obesity, heart and lung disease, Martin Health pharmacists are bringing their expertise in medication management to patients in the primary care doctor’s office. The pharmacists are making a significant difference by working directly with patients who have one or more chronic conditions and are taking multiple medications. Patients not only gain a better understanding of their conditions and the prescriptions they take, they have a personal advocate helping them take control of their health. Ask your Martin Health primary care physician if the comprehensive health management program is right for you.
Venture Philanthropy Fund
A volunteer-led initiative at the Martin Health Foundation is bringing together philanthropists and visionary projects designed to improve patient care. Successful business leaders and venture capitalists have donated their time and expertise to develop a program that will raise funds and support unique, thoughtful and creative proposals that will enhance the quality of care at Martin Health and ultimately improve the quality of life on the Treasure Coast.
Comprehensive Cancer Center
With the creation of the new Center for Lung Health and the addition of the TrueBeam radiotherapy system, the Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center at Martin Health is continually focused on offering local patients access to the latest in comprehensive cancer treatment. The Center for Lung Health was developed to address the high incidence of lung cancer in Martin and St. Lucie counties and features Dennis Tishko, MD, a board-certified thoracic surgeon with 21 years of experience in the field. The first of its kind on the Treasure Coast, TrueBeam delivers highly focused radiation treatments tailored to each patient’s needs. Robot Speeds Treatment and Discharge Process for Inpatient Psychiatric Consultations
The Emergency Department at Tradition Medical Center is using an inventive telemedicine tool for psychiatric consultations. A robot known as RP-VITA® (Remote Presence Virtual + Independent Telemedicine Assistant) allows a psychiatrist outside of the hospital to remotely assess a patient who presents to the emergency department with serious mental health concerns. The result is a more expedient recommendation for treatment so the patient can be admitted to an appropriate facility or safely discharged.
Medical Fitness Directed Program Supports Successful Recovery of Patients
The Martin Health and Fitness Centers are among a small number of medically directed fitness program in the state of Florida. Overseen by a medical director and certified health and fitness specialists, this program focuses on patients who are recovering from surgery, cancer and physical or occupational injuries, as well as those who have diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, neurological disorders or other physical needs or challenges. The program’s participants benefit from the expertise of trainers whose experience extends well beyond general fitness to include rehabilitation and the needs of special populations. This high level of training and expertise is leading to the distinctive certification as a Medical Fitness center later this year. For more information, visit martinhealth.org/medicalfitness.
