Martin Health Physician Group Celebrates 20 Years

Winter 2015

When Martin Health Physician Group was established in 1994, the idea of combining a wide range of medical specialties under one organization was a relatively new and forward-thinking concept. Today, the medical group model is a key component of high-quality, coordinated care.

Martin Health Physician Group offers access to 14 different specialties, from family practice and pediatrics to gastroenterology and neurosurgery. The comprehensive, multidisciplinary team approach brings together physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners to provide the best outcomes for their patients and enhance their overall experience. Through the use of the online MyChart system, Martin Health Physician Group providers and their patients can securely and conveniently share medical information such as lab results and prescriptions.

“Our patients look to us for expertise and familiarity with their medical history,” said Michael Skehan, MD, Martin Health’s senior vice president and chief medical officer. “Martin Health Physician Group is proud to have served and gained the trust of thousands of patients over the past 20 years and we look forward to serving the health care needs of the Treasure Coast for years to come.”

What is a Martin Health Physician Group hospitalist?

If you have a Martin Health Physician Group primary care physician and are hospitalized, you will be cared for by a Martin Health Physician Group hospitalist during your admission. Hospitalists specialize in the practice of “Hospital Medicine”--they are exclusively dedicated to inpatient care and are available to provide comprehensive diagnosis, supervision and treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hospitalists typically complete their training in internal medicine or family practice, but may also receive training in other medical specialties.

During a hospital stay, our hospitalists coordinate treatment, reviewing tests and adjusting care in coordination with other specialists. They work closely with primary care physicians, ensuring a safe and efficient transition in and out of the hospital.
