PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., Dec. 18, 2013 – After 15 years of planning and preparation, Martin Health System realizes its vision of bringing high-quality health care to the residents of west Port St. Lucie with the opening of Tradition Medical Center. The doors to the hospital open today at 7 a.m.
Tradition Medical Center is a 201,184-square-foot, 90-bed acute care hospital. In addition to emergency care, the hospital offers general and specialized medical care, general and specialized surgical services, an intensive care unit, labor and delivery services, and a neonatal intensive care unit. Full diagnostic imaging and laboratory services are also available.
In its first year, the medical center anticipates 30,000 visits to its emergency department, 6,000 patient admissions and 1,500 births. The six-floor structure was designed to be able to expand as needed in the future, with an eventual total capacity of 300 beds.
“For years, residents of west Port St. Lucie and surrounding communities told us there was a significant need for access to medical services in the area,” said Mark E. Robitaille, president and chief executive officer of Martin Health. “This hospital is testament to our organization’s commitment to meeting the health care needs of our community.”
Located on the Tradition Center for Innovation campus, the medical center joins Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) of Florida, and the Mann Research Center.
“Having a hospital on campus will help further Martin Health System’s ability to play a pivotal role in advancing health care through clinical and research trials,” Robitaille said. “This is a very exciting time for Martin Health and for the community as we bring greatly needed acute care, close to home for the residents of west Port St. Lucie.”
