STUART, FL, January 23, 2014 - Martin Health System has been designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) by the AAGL and Surgical Review Corporation. This designation recognizes health care providers who have demonstrated excellent care and practice in minimally invasive gynecological procedures.
“The COEMIG designation demonstrates that Martin Health provide excellence in care and advance techniques for our gynecological patients,” stated Laura Schmidt, RN, MSN-L, Clinical Resource Coordinator.
Obtaining this designation was a team effort by a COEMIG sub-committee which included associates from throughout the Martin Health System including administration, education, anesthesia, peri-operative, medical staff services, patient care, clinical care, case management, quality, marketing and health information management. This team worked hard to collect data, provide education to associates and ensure all requirements were fulfilled.
The Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology program was developed as a true quality improvement initiative. It is focused on improving the safety and quality of gynecologic patient care and lowering the overall costs associated with successful treatment. It is also designed to ensure that women are aware of their surgical treatment options and the benefits of less invasive approaches while recognizing those surgeons and facilities that have demonstrated excellence in these advanced techniques.
