$1 Million Pledge to Support Advanced Education for Martin Health Nurses
In honor of National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, the planning committee of the 2014 Chrysanthemum Ball has committed to raise $1 million in support of the educational pursuits of Martin Health nurses working to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Event co-chairs, Dolores Lashkevich and Joyce Williams, announced the 2014 Chrysanthemum Ball on November 8 will fund an initiative to support education expenses for Martin Health nurses who are pursuing a BSN. They refer to numerous studies that correlate advanced nursing education with critical clinical outcomes such as shorter hospital stays, decreased infection rates and lower incidence of injury. BSN nurses are also shown to hold higher competencies in communication and problem solving abilities, higher proficiency in assessment of patients and higher proficiency to impact nursing care and quality outcomes.
“On behalf of Martin Health and the nurses who will benefit from this generous commitment, we wish to extend our appreciation to the Mum Ball Committee,” said Craig Chindemi, Vice President and Chief Philanthropic Officer, Martin Health Foundation. “Investing in advanced education for our nurses will better prepare them for the demands of a rapidly evolving health care system and enhance the quality of care for our patients.”
