Sail Away to Goombay

June 26, 2015

The LifeSavers

The LifeSavers are a group of 35 local volunteers who are committed to raising funds for maternal child and pediatric services at Martin Health.

The 14th annual Goombay Bash is set for Saturday, July 18 at Sandsprit Park in Stuart. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and includes tasty local eats, cool libations, live music and more. Hosted by the Martin Health System LifeSavers, Goombay Bash is one of the most anticipated events on the Treasure Coast and raises funds for maternal child and pediatric services at Martin Health.

The LifeSaver committee of 35 local volunteers is co-chaired this year by Lauren Moss and Bill Ray. With a new venue and theme, they promise to once again deliver an outstanding summer event.

Sandsprit Park is the new waterfront location for Goombay Bash and will set the vibe for this year’s theme, “Sail Away to Goombay.” Guests will be greeted at the park with tropical drinks and caribbean music. Goombay Bash also features delicious food and beverages donated by local restaurants and distributors.

“The LifeSavers will be creating a fun outdoor space to enjoy corn hole games, OxyPro’s oxygen bar and other surprise activities,” said Michelle Eastman, event specialist at Martin Health Foundation. “The Frequency Band, high energy musicians from Orlando, will also help guests dance the night away.”

The Martin Health LifeSavers came together in 2002 to host a charity event aimed at helping to provide children in our community with access to the best possible health care.  Held each July, the Goombay Bash raises funds for Martin Health System’s maternal child and pediatric services. Maternity services are offered at Martin Medical Center in Stuart and Tradition Medical Center in Port St. Lucie. Pediatric care is available at three ancillary facilities in Stuart, Jensen Beach and St. Lucie West.  The LifeSavers’ impact also goes beyond hospital walls and into the homes of new families by supporting the Mother Baby Home Care program.  This program ensures that a mother’s positive birth experience continues into her initial days at home; a Martin Health nurse visits the home to check on mom and baby.

The maternal child and pediatric departments have put together wish lists for 2015 to include hospital needs like incubators, warmers and cribs, as well as at-home needs for mother and baby that include visitation funding and hand-held breast pumps. This year, the Goombay Bash LifeSavers would like to exceed the $150,000 mark to make those wishes come true.

Martin Health and the LifeSavers wish to thank this year’s event sponsors:
