Parent/Child: (6 months to 3 years)
Parents and children learn together through two fun-filled levels to increase children's comfort in the water and to build a foundation of basic aquatic and water safety skills.
Preschool: (3 years – 4 years)
Same basic safety and stroke work as parent/child. This is usually the child's first time in the water by themselves. The child will learn to front and back crawl.
- Saturday: 10:45 – 11:15 am
The following levels are on a graduation basis determined by the instructor:
Level 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
The swimmer is comfortable in and around the water. This level will help gain greater independence in their skills including bobbing, floating, recovering to a vertical position, roll from back to front and front to back, treading water and water safety.
- Saturday: 10 – 10:30 am, 12:15 – 12:45 pm
Level 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
The swimmer must pass level 1 by floating on his or her back for 10 seconds and performing a front crawl on his or her stomach for 15 meters and 3 breaths. This level will focus on the proficiency with the basic water skills.
Level 3/4: STROKE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT
The swimmer must pass level 2 by performing the front and back crawl for 15 to 20 meters. Level 3 will build skills in deeper water including swimming under water, feet-first surface dive, survival swimming, front crawl and backstroke open turns, treading water using two different kicks, basic backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
- Saturday: 11:30 – 12:00 pm
Level 5: SWIM TEAM AND STROKE REFINEMENT
The swimmer must pass level 3/4 showing proficiency in all four strokes. This level will focus on endurance swimming, stroke technique and how to use a swim clock.
Level 5 will meet twice per week for four weeks.
