Smoking Increases Risk for Hemorrhage

Smoking increases a woman's risk for a severe and often fatal bleeding stroke known as an intracerebral hemorrhage. A nine-year study of 39,783 women found that those who smoked 15 or more cigarettes a day were three times more likely to have a bleeding stroke than nonsmoking women. The study was published in 2003 in the journal Stroke.
