Health Tip: Secondhand Smoke is Dangerous

(HealthDay News) -- There's no safe amount of exposure to secondhand smoke, which can cause lung and heart problems among people who don't smoke.

The womenshealth.gov website says secondhand smoke poses these increased risks to infants and children:

  • Low birth weight, weak lungs and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

  • Pneumonia or bronchitis.

  • More frequent ear infections.

  • Coughing and wheezing.

  • Worsening asthma symptoms.

  • Being sick more frequently than kids who aren't exposed to secondhand smoke.
