Our Center for Lung Health offers a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating cancers of the lung, chest and esophagus. The Center for Lung Health offers patients access to a broad range of specialties for cancer treatment including pulmonology, thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion services and social services. Since no two patients are alike, we believe choosing the right cancer surgery and treatment for each individual is critical.

The Center for Lung Health also features a lung health navigator who provides support and assists with the patient’s overall experience, from intake and scheduling to referrals and the development of a treatment plan. Most importantly, the navigator works proactively with the patient and their family to ease the burden of arranging for access to cancer care.

While lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in the country, it can have a 90 percent survival rate if caught early. Cleveland Clinic Martin Health is offering a low-dose CT screening for lung cancer. This screening can detect lung cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages. Medicare and many insurance plans are now covering the cost of the screening for those who meet the criteria.

Who should be screened for lung cancer?

  • Those age 50 to 80 with at least a 20 pack-year* history of smoking and currently smoking or quit less than 15 years ago, OR
  • Those age 50 or older with at least a 20-pack-year of smoking who may have quit more than 15 years ago and have a history of one additional risk factor such as family history of lung cancer, exposure to a known carcinogen, COPD, emphysema or other cancer

*Pack-year = the number of packs smoked per day multiplied by the number of years smoking.

Low-Dose CT Screening

The Center for Lung Health has developed a lung cancer risk assessment tool that can be used to assess for factors that are known to increase risk of developing lung cancer. This online questionnaire considers factors such as your age, smoking history, exposure to known cancer causing materials, and can be used to identify if a low-dose CT screening is recommended for you.
